The 35mm/50mm Pixel Ball Chain is a spherical LED string system designed for commercial, event, and architectural lighting. Each string has 20 independently controllable RGB globe nodes - either 35mm or 50mm diameter. Each ball has SMD5050 LEDs driven at DC24V. Both are available in two sizes, are DMX512 and SPI control protocol compatible, and offer a full 360° beam angle. The milky white or clear polycarbonate housing uniformly diffuses light at all angles of view.

Two sizes, one system. The 35mm ball is intended for higher density applications and shorter viewing distances such as interior stages or shop displays. The 50mm ball provides more brightness per node and is ideal for huge external facades or architectural drapes viewed from a distance.
Each has RGB control. Both sizes have pixel-level effects if used with a compatible SPI or DMX512 controller. DMX512 is good for long distance runs and professional lighting consoles.
SPI works well for smaller controller-based projects where cost is a factor.
Break-point continuous transmission. Specific IC models support signal bypass: if one node fails, the signal continues to the rest of the string. This is particularly relevant for large permanent installations where manual servicing is difficult.
16-bit grayscale. With 65,536 dimming levels per channel, color transitions appear fluid rather than stepped. This is relevant for video-mapped or animated content where smooth gradients matter.
Full epoxy potting. The IP65/IP67 rating is achieved through full epoxy encapsulation. Combined with UV-stabilized polycarbonate housing, the balls resist moisture, impact, and prolonged sun exposure.
The 35mm/50mm Pixel Ball Chain is used across three major project types.
Architectural media curtains. Mounted on building exteriors, these chains handle wind load and temperature variation while supporting low-resolution video mapping visible from distance. DC24V operation reduces voltage drop over extended runs.
Atrium and interior installations. The strings are hung vertically in malls, airports etc., and create volumetric light sculptures. The polycarbonate housing is rated V0 flame retardant, which is important for compliance in indoor public area.
Concert and touring stage sets. Fast to deploy and strike down, the chains maintain signal integrity under the vibration and electromagnetic conditions typical at live events.

ElisaLED has a variety of inspection procedures before shipping, including thermal cycling, salt spray ageing, waterproof immersion verification, UV resistance tests, and signal integrity checks. The goal is to confirm that each unit performs to specification before leaving the facility.

ElisaLED supports customization for the product, including PCB design, LED chip selection, controller IC type, housing finish, wiring layout, and packaging. Sample lead time is 5–7 days. Production lead time for custom orders is 7–10 days.

Q: What is the difference between the 35mm and 50mm pixel ball?
A: 35mm ball is better for high density setups and short viewing distance, like on indoor stages. The 50mm ball has a higher lumen output per node and is ideal for big external facades or architectural drapes.
Q: What control protocol should I use — SPI or DMX512?
A: Use DMX512 if you are doing long runs and using quality lighting consoles. SPI is practical for smaller controller based solutions where cost is a consideration.
Q: What if one of the nodes in the middle of the chain fails?
A: Bypass ICs in the models provide a bypass for the signal around the faulty node. Replacement splices in a new ball with watertight connectors. Not all IC models have this feature – please check with us when setting your order.
Q: Can I use 35mm and 50mm balls together on one controller?
A: Both sizes use the same SPI/DMX512 protocol and DC24V supply, therefore they are compatible with the same type of controller. "Physical string mixing depends on how you wire.
Q: Is the PC housing suitable for indoor public spaces?
A: The polycarbonate housing is rated UL94 V0 flame retardant. Check for applicability to your specific installation as it pertains to local building codes and your project needs.
